Australia’s Healthy Weight Week

AHWW-Signature-2016

Australia’s Healthy Weight Week (AHWW) is an annual initiative run by the Dieititian’s Association of Australia. AHWW runs from 15-26th February and is designed to increase the awareness of the importance of healthy eating for our overall health and well being, including disease prevention. This year, Australia’s dietitians want to inspire all Aussies to cook at home more often to achieve a healthy weight.

With many Australians aspiring to eat better in the New Year, the 2016 campaign aims to get people cooking at home more often. Research shows that people whoprepare food at home are more likely to eat smaller portions and take in fewer kilojoules and less fat, salt and sugar. And in turn, this is more likely to result in a healthy weight.

The latest National Health Survey (2014-2015) found that only 7% of Australians meet the recommended number of serves per day and only 49.8% meet the fruit recommendation. Research shows that people who cook and eat at home eat more healthily and have smaller portion sizes than those who eat out.
